Ohio Grants for LED Stop Signs, School Zone & Pedestrian Safety

Ohio Grants for LED Stop Signs, School Zone & Pedestrian Safety

Alert Lighting Co.

Ohio has one of the largest state highway safety programs in the country, and cities, counties, and schools have real, well funded paths to pay for LED stop signs and flashing school zone signage.

Alert Lighting Company builds MUTCD compliant, solar powered LED safety signs that fit directly into the scope of these programs.

Current Ohio Grant Programs

Program Status Typical Eligible Projects Official Link
Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) Ongoing; ODOT distributes about $185 million per year to district offices and local governments Infrastructure improvements such as high-visibility crosswalks, roundabouts, and turn lanes at intersections ODOT Highway Safety Improvement Program
Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Infrastructure Program 2026 cycle guidance published; applications accepted multiple times a year Engineering, design, and construction projects that improve the built environment for walking and biking within about two miles of a K-12 school ODOT Safe Routes to School
ODOT Highway Safety Program, Systemic Improvements Applications accepted twice a year, due March 31 and August 31, 2026 Proactive, systemic infrastructure improvements targeting pedestrian and roadway departure crashes ODOT Systemic Safety Improvements (via Greater Ohio Policy Center)

Note: past Ohio SRTS grants have specifically funded new digital school zone speed limit signs alongside sidewalk and crosswalk work, so signage upgrades already have a track record of getting funded under this program.

How These Programs Line Up With Alert Lighting Products

LED Stop Signs for HSIP Intersection Projects

HSIP funds intersection improvements as one of its primary project types, backed by one of the largest state safety budgets in the country. A solar powered LED stop sign is a documented, low cost addition to this kind of project.

Flashing School Zone Signs

Ohio SRTS grants have funded digital school zone signage before, and construction projects must sit within about two miles of a K-12 school. A solar powered LED school zone sign is a direct match for this program.

Pedestrian Crossing Visibility

High-visibility crosswalks are a named HSIP project type, and pedestrian crash prevention is the explicit focus of ODOT's systemic safety improvement program. A flashing LED pedestrian crossing sign fits directly into either program.

What to Prepare Before Applying

  • Crash history or site documentation showing the safety need
  • Spec sheets and MUTCD compliance details for the equipment being requested
  • An itemized quote covering signage, mounting, and installation

Alert Lighting can provide all three for any Ohio project.
