Minnesota Grants for LED Stop Signs, School Zone & Pedestrian Safety

Minnesota Grants for LED Stop Signs, School Zone & Pedestrian Safety

Alert Lighting Co.

Minnesota cities, counties, and schools have several MnDOT administered paths to help pay for roadway and pedestrian safety upgrades, including LED stop signs and flashing school zone signage.

Alert Lighting Company builds MUTCD compliant, solar powered LED safety signs that fit directly into the scope of these programs.

Current Minnesota Grant Programs

Program Status Typical Eligible Projects Official Link
State Funded Safe Routes to School Infrastructure Grants Cyclical solicitation, available statewide, no funding match required Sidewalks to schools, improved crossings, and other infrastructure on prioritized school routes MnDOT Safe Routes to School Grants and Funding
Greater Minnesota Transportation Alternatives (TAP) Competitive solicitation, Safe Routes to School is an eligible category, 20 percent local match required Pedestrian and bicycle facilities, trails, and Safe Routes to School infrastructure MnDOT Grant Opportunities
Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) Ongoing; about 60 percent of HSIP funding in Greater Minnesota goes to local roads Cost effective construction projects that reduce fatal and serious injury crashes MnDOT Highway Safety Improvement Program

Note: a completed SRTS plan is recommended, though not required, for the state funded infrastructure grant, and having one on hand tends to make an application stronger across all three programs.

How These Programs Line Up With Alert Lighting Products

LED Stop Signs for HSIP Local Road Projects

The majority of Minnesota's Greater MN HSIP funding goes to local roads. A solar powered LED stop sign is a low cost, fast to install project that fits this funding well.

Flashing School Zone Signs

Minnesota's state funded SRTS Infrastructure Grant requires no local match and has funded improved school crossings before. A solar powered LED school zone sign is a strong fit for this program.

Pedestrian Crossing Visibility

Improved crossings on school walking routes are a named example of past SRTS grants. A flashing LED pedestrian crossing sign supports exactly this kind of project.

What to Prepare Before Applying

  • Crash history or site documentation showing the safety need
  • Spec sheets and MUTCD compliance details for the equipment being requested
  • An itemized quote covering signage, mounting, and installation

Alert Lighting can provide all three for any Minnesota project.
