Alabama Grants for LED Stop Signs, School Zone & Pedestrian Safety
Alert Lighting Co.Cities, counties, and schools across Alabama have real options for funding roadway and pedestrian safety upgrades. Whether the goal is a flashing LED stop sign at a dangerous intersection, a solar powered school zone sign, or a marked pedestrian crossing near a park or campus, several ALDOT administered programs can help cover the cost.
Alert Lighting Company builds MUTCD compliant LED safety signs that fit directly into the scope of these programs. Here is what is currently available in Alabama.
Current Alabama Grant Programs
| Program | Status | Typical Eligible Projects | Official Link |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alabama Safe Routes to School (SRTS) | Ongoing, administered by ALDOT | School zone safety, crosswalks, sidewalks, flashing school zone signs | ALDOT |
| Local Roads Safety Initiative (LRSI), under the Highway Safety Improvement Program | FY 2027 call for applications is open | Lane departure and run off road crash reduction, rural road safety, intersection improvements including LED stop signs | ALDOT HSIP |
| Rebuild Alabama Act (RAA) Annual Grant Program | Annual cycle | Infrastructure improvements to classified roads and bridges open to public traffic | ALDOT RAA Grant Program |
Note: ALDOT's own HSIP page currently lists the standard HSIP application as inactive. The Local Roads Safety Initiative is the active program under that umbrella for FY 2027 and is administered through ALDOT's Submittable portal.
How These Programs Line Up With Alert Lighting Products
LED Stop Signs at High Risk Intersections
The Local Roads Safety Initiative prioritizes lane departure and run off road crashes on rural and local roads, exactly the kind of intersection a solar powered LED stop sign is built for. Our signs are MUTCD compliant and available in 30x30 inch and 36x36 inch sizes.
Flashing School Zone Signs for Arrival and Dismissal
Alabama's SRTS program is built around safer trips to school. A solar powered LED school zone sign improves driver compliance during arrival and dismissal without needing grid power.
Pedestrian Crossing Visibility
SRTS infrastructure funds can also support flashing LED pedestrian crossing signs at midblock crossings, park entrances, and campus walkways.
